Schools Installing Carbon Monoxide Detectors

Ben Schwarm, deputy executive director of the Illinois Association of School Boards, said the organization believes the installation of the detectors should be left up to local school districts. If the state mandates it, however, funding should be provided. “If the state thinks its a high enough priority, they should budget for it,” Schwarm said Thursday. A spokesman for the Illinois Association of School Administrators agreed. “We’re concerned about the funding mechanism,” said IASA communications chief Mike Chamness. The proposal could be debated in the short fall veto session, but McCann signaled that it may be an issue for the spring legislative session.
